Grand Marais

Grand Marais, our nearby quaint harbor town, is located just 6 miles north of Thomsonite Inn. The accolades almost speak for themselves. Grand Marais has been named America’s Coolest Small Town (Budget Travel Magazine), Top 10 Beach Getaways (Outside Magazine), and Next Great Adventure Town (National Geographic Adventure Magazine). Here you can enjoy fun shops, amazing art galleries, the cobblestone harbor beach, a walk to the infamous lighthouse, or an art class at North House Folk School or the Grand Marais Art Colony.

Biking

The North Shore is home to many bike trails, both paved and unpaved, and use of our road bikes are included in your stay at Thomsonite Inn. We are located less than a mile from Cutface Creek wayside rest, where you can take the Gitchi-Gami bike trail into the town of Grand Marais. We are also located near several mountain biking trails including Pincushion Mountain and the Britton Peak trail system.

Hiking

The North Shore is home to more than 386 miles of incredible hiking trails, including the infamous Superior Hiking Trail. Take your pick from Lake Superior views, waterfall adventures or loops through the Superior National Forest.

Golfing

Located only 14 miles from Superior National Golf Course, Thomsonite Inn is the perfect place to stay on your golf getaway. Superior National is a 27-hole public resort golf course set between beautiful Lake Superior and the Sawtooth Mountain Range. This course pairs untamed beauty with unparalleled play. Also, located in Grand Marais, are Gunflint Hills Golf Course and Putt 'n Pets mini golf course.
